When I went to the theater to see Godzilla Vs. Megalon, they had stacks of these "comics" for the taking. I saw the darn thing three times in a row- this was my chance to commit it to memory in those pre-VCR days. It was a weekend matinee and there were maybe eight people in the audience. Quite a contrast from when I saw Destroy All Monsters a few years earlier, where the theater was packed with cheering kids. Anyone catch GVsM's network premiere in '77 with John Belushi hosting? I did- just before i headed out to my Senior Prom...
Wow, what an awesome souvenir! A real collector's item, and what memories associated with it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting it, I love it!
And starring Jet Jaguar as Robotman! I remember when theatres used to have cool mini promo comics like these, I had a neat stack of them along with my Shoney's Big Boy comic adventures. So speaking of kaiju (tokusatsu-ly), I have a black and white illustrated Space Giants comic I could mail to you if you'd like to scan it and post it here at the MCB. It's too long for me to scan myself with any real level of patience but it's pretty cool and has alot of old photos 'n stuff to boot. Just email me yer address... you'll have to promise to mail it back though! PROMISE!!!
ReplyDeletefred- as always, glad to please!
ReplyDeleteKars- i swear on my stack of Howard The Duck comics(?) to do as you request...

ReplyDeleteUmmm, okay... as long as yer also not swearing on your Howard the Duck Special Edition Anniversary DVD boxset. Actually, is that movie as bad as everyone thinks it is? I suppose the best thing I can say is that it's definitely no Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park.
how about "The Banana Splits In Hocus-Pocus Park"?...
ReplyDeleteman, don't knock the Splits! the Splits rule! the Splits got me laid!
ReplyDeleteGodzilla vs Megalon was on cable here in the UK a couple of weeks back. now, THAT'S how you do a monster flick!
and you DO realise, sir, that this is probably the coolest comic EVER, don't you? in fact, the only thing that could make that comic any cooler than it already is would be if Galactus turned up at the end and ate everyone ( everything is cooler with Galactus ).
terrific post.
don't get me wrong, i'm a Splits-head too!(but they never brought sexual favors my way!...)
ReplyDeleteCool comic.
ReplyDeleteI love the movie and I'd have loved to see it in the theater. Must have been a blast.
