8MM boxes are the best!!! What a concept!!! You really had to want to watch a movie reel bad in order to break out the screen, and set up the projector just to watch a 3 minute silent movie!!! Kids today think they got it tough!!
i'd usually watch one of these three or four times in a row forward and backward just to make it worth the effort! the coolest thing to do is to get two projectors and project one film on top of another. you get images of true surrealism!
Wow, I didn't know they made a Voyage into Space Super8!
But yeah, playing these reels backwards was sometimes more fun than playing them forwards... we also used to spin records to these, picking songs from albums or 45's and see if we could get lyrics or riffs to line up with the action. All the hub bub about Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and Oz is just a load of baloney cuz Dark Side lines up perfectly with just about every movie ever made.
Wondrous, atmospheric artwork on these boxes. Today's DVD/Blu-ray covers of modern films lack all this. You really can't beat old artwork (or old films for that matter)!
these are all truly incredible!
ReplyDeletei love how panicked, and small the crowd looks at the bottom of pic #3. That and the guy getting roasted by the Monster from a Prehistoric Planet.
and most of 'em came from The Captain Company! (anyone know why the Co. was named that?)
