R.I.P. Art Clokey 1921-2010

Finding out that Gumby was on VHS in the early 80s was the catalyst- I got my first VCR. The Gumby films Clokey made in the 50s live in a strange but wonderful closed-in world that only children with imagination inhabit and are full of danger as well as joy. Check 'em out, they gotta be on YouTube...
Hint- The red-eyed Gumby is the best...

Sad news regarding Art Clokey. No matter how old I get (and I'm getting pretty grey these days), those great Gumby cartoons, especially the earlier ones, are incredible. Very often they seemed to be flow of consciousness, though I'm sure Clokey planned them out. They had a child's dream-like quality... like when Gumby's dad saw Gumby on the moon and used the ladder from a toy firetruck to go up and bring him back. It beats the hell out of anything made for TV these days. I think I'll put some Gumby on now!!!
