Mattel's Major Matt Mason

Well, I just found this ad and it reminded me that I used to have almost all of this stuff and don't anymore, some things from my childhood did fall by the wayside, unfortunately. I do still have the MMM Big Little Book though. I was gonna go on & on about MMM but whilst looking for images of his alien buddy Callisto(which I also had)I discovered that Major Matt Mason has been blogged about about a gazillion times already so for those of you who haven't been exposed to this piece of neat-o just search for Major Matt Mason on the internet and be intrigued. Anyway, it's a fun ad...yay.

Wow, I'm with you...I still have the Big Little Book but my MMM figures and gear are long gone, sadly. I was actually just looking at this stuff on Ebay not long ago. I miss these and teh Marx Bros 12" Knights that went along with the super cool Jonny West line. Meeeeemories!!

That "space suit" looks like a skyway bucket costume!

You ever walk into a store, and its packed from floor to ceiling with so much cool stuff, you realize you may as well cancel all your plans for the rest of the day because you're never getting out of there? That's how I feel after wandering into this blog. Fun stuff!

I'm betting that, before you lost, discarded, or gave away Matt, the wires in one or both of his elbows were broken from fatigue.

I think I had one of these too, Prof.
Kinda foggy, been a while since then...
I never had a MMM BLB tho! Dang!

I had a Space Sled but no Matt figure... how stupid ass is that? GI Joe worked ok on it though.

i thought GI Joe figures were like twice the size of Major Matt Mason! did he have a sled for each foot?...

Oh Prof, you know the way to my heart... the good Major and all of his friends were an important part of my childhood as well. I had all the items in this ad, except for the space station shown here. I did however have a space station, that was a type of fold out vinyl "box", with a control screen and pull string voice recordings... one of my very favorite Birthday presents ever. Alas, all of those are long gone, as well as the MMM Big Little Book. I"d love to see some of it's pages/illustrations here if you have the time or interest. Thanks!

I had Mat and the sled. Matt left no impression. That Space Crawler, though, used to give me chills. One day I covered the carpeted floor in the front room with, as I recall, doggie milk bones to replicate a lunar surface. Man, I still remember my awesome pride in that great hunk of machinery, chewing up that lunar landscape! -- Mykal

Holy shit! I got the MMM doll for Hanukah when I was 4 years old. I also eventually got the space station. Yes, I was a spoiled bastard (which might explain a few things) but my older cousin got the ultra cool Space Crawler. That lucky sunovabitch!
