I love a good ol' monster magazine(or even a mediocre one if it has a good cover)so here's a selection from Horror Monsters #8, a photo story featuring a film that needs no further introduction. Or Does It?
hey, join the club...
woof!
This Charlton publication did not possess the best printing quality you've ever seen, but it and sister mag Mad Monsters did feature semi-accurate coverage of films that Famous Monsters would barely acknowledge. In it's small and inadvertant way it was a cult movie magazine before there was such a thing as a Cult Movie.

ReplyDeleteanyone who recognizes Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster as a work of genius has my respect!
Page 14, the photo running the length of the right-hand side; who IS that being manhandled by Pete Pick-a-Part because it sure as hell isn't Leslie Daniels.
ReplyDeletei think it's director Joseph Green. if i find out different(i have this info somewhere), i'll correct myself in a future comment. i'll flog myself, too.

Love the ad about do-it-yourself-lycanthropy. I figured the package you got back contained the incantations to summon the devil and make a pact to become a werewolf, which is how they did it in the good old days. None of this "I'm an innocent victim!" stuff after being bitten; no, they did it because they already had a thirst for blood and wanted to be hairy too!
Or course, after running amuck and killing, their plea "the devil made me do it" didn't help with the authorities as they tortured him to death. Needless to say Ol' Scratch didn't show up to defend his disciple.
"i went out one fine Spring morning to find myself a friend,
ReplyDeletesomeone i could believe in, until the very end...
i found myself the Devil, he was sitting in a bar,
he bought me fifteen rum & cokes and then he went too far...
but, the Devil is my friend,
the Devil is my friend,
wherever i go, the Devil goes,
the Devil is my friend!
and now it's Easter, i'm feelin' mighty low,
that dirty rotten Devil, he said he had to go...
dirty, stinkin' Devil, i'll shoot him with my gun,
he makes me mad, the Devil's bad, the Devil is a bum!
but, the Devil is my friend,
the Devil is my friend,
wherever i go, the Devil goes,
the Devil is my friend!"
