For Monsters Only #7 - Jerry Grandenetti's Vampire Hunt '69 (Count Dragula, I Presume)

I know I said I wouldn't be posting every single day but I didn't mean to skip out for this long! Here's another issue of For Monsters Only, this time featuring Part One of an unusual tale of hippies 'n' hemoglobin featuring fantastic Jerry Grandenetti art!

Anyone correctly identifying the movie the above image is promoting will WIN...my undying admiration!

  1. Wow, this one brings back memories. I remember buying this "way back when," mainly because of this very story. I lost the mag decades ago, but the story has stayed with me. I look forward to tomorrow's post (and to any others from this issue). Thanks!!

  2. This is the magazine that made me a Peter Cushing fan, and I read it to pieces trying to memorize the titles of all of his films. The humorous article about Anthony Quinn's Hunchback of Notre Dame intrigued me. (After more than 40 years I still haven't seen the film and I'm still curious about it!) And a great comics story by Jerry Grandenetti (long before I realized who Jerry Grandentti was. I didn't figure that out until I saw the "Jill the Ripper" story he did for an issue of Vampirella). Good post, prof!

  4. well, it is an Eye Creature's head on a mummy's body(?)but what movie is he appearing in here?...(i know the answer, it's just a test of the Emergency BROADcasting System!...)

i am drawing a blank on CHFB, although the name DocZilla rings a bell...

  5. I can't imagine Larry Buchanan letting someone else use one of his creatures for their competing film...nor why would anyone want them?

For most of the creatures in the film, the head was all that was seen, the rest of their bodies were poorly concealed black leotards. Maybe the mummy wrap was more menacing for a publicity shot than some horrifically deformed refugee from the Bolshoi.

BTW the CHFB is The Classic Horror Film Board -

  7. DocZilla- the still is from "Ghost In The Invisible Bikini" from 1966. "The Eye Creatures" was released in 1965 and both films were made for and by AIP, so the mask was obviously scooped up for use in GITIB. however, i have also heard(trying to remember where)that the mask was originally designed but unused as one of the stages of Boris Karloff's mutation in "Die, Monster, Die!"(also '65). i'm gonna check out the forum forthwith!...

Kars- great minds think alike once again!
