Ghosts Reading People Stories - Mighty Ghost #4

To reiterate- with two or three exceptions every comic I have posted so far were all bought new off the rack(or spinner rack)when I was a kid in the 60s. Though I still look for vintage comics I usually stick to the Silver Age, being especially pleased when I find an issue I had seen in ads back in the day but never saw on the rack(or spinner rack). I hadn't gone shopping for about a year now on account of half of this household being out of work for most of that time. Now that this situation has finally changed I took a trip to the nearest comic store on Saturday and picked up this little Casper knock-off. It's one of the oldest comics I own, having first appeared in 1958, the year before I was born. This friendly ghost is more like Spooky with an altruistic streak. Also included is another story from the same issue that features spooks annnnnd...Pidgy and his Magic Paint?...

Mighty Ghost looks close enough to Casper to get the attention of Harvey's lawyers. You might say he's a dead ringer, yuk yuk.

Cool Post!! Someone should do a collection of all the Casper knockoffs, many of them damn good. Looking over this one, which I liked, reminded me of something I read once: The artists at Harvey used to say that Casper was the hardest of the Harvey characters to draw, which is why Warren Kremer did them so often. Something about his deceptively amorphous shape falling away to a blob without character - sort of like drawing a laundry bag of clothes that had to have the same personality panel after panel. Looking at this, the character here loses or gains definition so much, he looses a specific character.

Wow. I just had that terrible feeling that only I give a crap about this. Bye. -- Mykal
